About the Author

Lieutenant General Israr Ahmad Ghumman was commissioned into 28 Cavalry in November 1971 and fought the 1971 Pakistan-India War in Chhamb Sector. He is a graduate of US Army Armour School Fort Knox, Command & Staff College Quetta, Bangladesh Defence Services Command & Staff College and the National Defence College Rawalpindi. He has been a Brigade Major of an infantry brigade, Deputy Director Military Operations (Plans) in Military Operations Directorate, GHQ and Chief of Staff of a Corps. He was on the faculty of Pakistan Military Academy, Command & Staff College and the War Wing of the National Defence College. He commanded 28 Cavalry, 20 Infantry Brigade. 3 Independent Armoured Brigade Group, 6 Armoured Division and was Chairmar Heavy Industries Taxila. He remained Colonel of 28 Cavalry for over six years_ He was awarded Hilal-e-Imtiaz and Hilale-Imtiaz (Military) for his meritorioes services rendered to the Country and the Pakistan Army. After retirement from the Army in June 2009, he was assigned as Secretary to the Government of Pakistan in Ministry of Defence Production for two years. Having served his nation for over forty years, he now lives a retired life with his big family in Lahore.
