About the Author

ANNIE ERNAUX was born in Normandy in 1940. In France, her books have won numerous prizes, including the Prix Renaudot. Her books have sold over a million copies and are taught in French schools as contemporary classics. Shame was a bestseller in France, where in its first year sales exceeded 140,000 copies. In the United States, three 0f Ernaux’s books have been New York Times Notable Books of the Year. A Woman’s Story was also a Los Angeles Times Book Prize finalist, and A Man’s Place was a French-American Foundation Award finalist. Ernaux currently works as a teacher by correspondence and lives outside of Paris.
