About the Author

Gabriele Marranci completed his PhD in anthropology with a thesis focusing on Muslim identity in Northern Ireland. He also conducted fieldwork in Italy, France and recently in Scotland about the local Muslim communities. Interested in the different cultural aspects of the Islamic world, such as music, arts and language, he has developed a particular interest about the relation between Islam and modernity and how Muslim identity is constructed in migration contexts. He has published articles and presented papers at international conferences about Islam and gender, fundamentalism, Islamophobia, education, and post-11 September assimilation and multiculturalism.
