About the Author

Altaf Qadir is Associate Professor of History at the University of Peshawar. His research focuses on the sociopolitical and religious mobilization in the Afghan borderland during the 19th and 20th centuries. Trained as a historian at Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, he earned his Ph.D. in 2013. Qadir’s work critically engages with reformist and resistance movements, challenging colonial, nationalist, and state-centric narratives. He mentors graduate research on the history of the Afghan borderland, and early Muslim History, with particular emphasis on the evolution of political and religious institutions in the Muslim societies.  As a former research fellow at the University of Göttingen, he explored indigenous Islamic texts and evolving jurisprudential traditions. He is currently completing two major manuscripts—one on Iman (Faith), and another on religious debates in colonial-era North-West Frontier.   He also co-founded the Dosti Peshawar Literature Festival, a public platform for underrepresented voices in regional scholarship and culture.
