About the Author

Charlotte Bronte, novelist and poetess, was born in Thorton Vicarage in Yokshire in 1816. Rev. Patrick Bronte, her father, was a man of some literary aspirations, who did all he could to promote the intellectual development of Charlotte and her sister Emily Bronte. The life at the parsonage with few social contacts, where the only window to the world were the books and magazines their father could afford to buy, had a major influence on the sisters’ character and career.
