About the Author

GEOFFREY PARKER is Andreas Dorpalen Professor of History at Ohio State University, and previously held chairs at Yale University, The University of British Columbia, The University of Illinois, and St Andrews in Great Britain. He is author or editor of thirty books, including The Military Revolution and The Dutch Revolt. Most have appeared in many foreign translations. He is a Fellow of the British Academy, a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Isabel the Catholic and Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Alfonso the Wise. He is currently writing a book about the world crisis of the seventeenth century. He lives in Columbus, Ohio.
